What it is
NSAI (the National Standards Authority of Ireland) is Ireland’s national standards body and the Irish member of the European organisation CEN and the international body ISO. Beyond standardisation it also provides certification and acts as a notified body for certain product legislation, and runs legal metrology functions.
Why it matters for compliance
Conformity in practice means applying the right standard, and NSAI is where you access the EN standards your product needs for the Irish market. Because NSAI is also a notified body, it can — for in-scope products — perform the third-party conformity assessment some legislation requires. The legal weight of a standard comes from its harmonised status (cited in the Official Journal).
