What it is
NANDO (New Approach Notified and Designated Organisations) is the European Commission’s official database of notified bodies — the independent conformity-assessment bodies designated by Member States to perform third-party assessment where legislation requires it. You can search it by directive/regulation and by country.
Why it matters for compliance
Whether you need a notified body depends on the product’s risk and the conformity-assessment module the legislation allows. Where third-party assessment is required (for example, higher-risk products, or where a harmonised standard is not fully applied), only a body notified for that specific legislation can do it — and its identification number then accompanies the CE mark. NANDO is how you find the right one and confirm its scope.
