What it is
CEI (Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano) is Italy’s body for electrotechnical standardisation and the Italian member of the European organisation CENELEC and the international IEC. It produces the Italian electrotechnical standards, complementing UNI, which covers other fields.
Why it matters for compliance
For electrical and electronic products, the standards that demonstrate conformity under regimes such as the Low Voltage Directive and EMC are electrotechnical — and CEI is the Italian route to them. A standard’s legal weight comes from being harmonised (cited in the Official Journal) for the applicable legislation.
