What it is
ČAS (Česká agentura pro standardizaci, the Czech Standardization Agency) is Czechia’s national standards body, responsible for the Czech technical standards (ČSN) and the Czech adoptions of European (EN) and international standards. It is a state organisation established to manage standardisation.
Why it matters for compliance
Conformity in practice means applying the right standard, and ČAS is where you access the EN standards your product needs for the Czech market. A standard’s legal weight comes from being harmonised (cited in the Official Journal) for the applicable legislation.
How to use it
- Find and access the relevant EN/ČSN standards for your product.
- Confirm a standard is harmonised and current for the applicable legislation.
- Pair it with the Czech Trade Inspection (ČOI) for market surveillance.
Good to know
ČAS publishes standards; enforcement of product safety in Czechia sits with the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (ČOI).
