What it is
Standards Norway (Standard Norge) is Norway’s national standards body and the Norwegian member of the European organisation CEN and the international body ISO. It develops Norwegian standards (NS) and publishes the Norwegian adoptions of European (EN) and international standards.
Why it matters for compliance
Norway is part of the EEA, so EU single-market product rules — and the harmonised EN standards behind them — apply in Norway. Standards Norway is where you access and buy those standards for the Norwegian market. The legal weight comes from a standard being harmonised (cited in the Official Journal).
How to use it
- Find and purchase the relevant EN/NS standards for your product.
- Confirm a standard is harmonised and current for the applicable legislation.
- Pair it with Norway’s authorities (DSB for product/electrical safety, Miljødirektoratet for chemicals).
Good to know
