What it is
Icelandic Standards (Staðlaráð Íslands, IST) is Iceland’s national standards body and the Icelandic member of the European organisation CEN and the international body ISO. It publishes Icelandic standards and the Icelandic adoptions of European (EN) and international standards.
Why it matters for compliance
Iceland is part of the EEA, so EU single-market product rules — and the harmonised EN standards behind them — apply in Iceland. Icelandic Standards is where you access those standards for the Icelandic market. A standard’s legal weight comes from its harmonised status (cited in the Official Journal).
How to use it
- Find and access the relevant EN/IST standards for your product.
- Confirm a standard is harmonised and current for the applicable legislation.
- Pair it with Iceland’s consumer authority, Neytendastofa, for market surveillance.
Good to know
As an EEA state, Iceland implements EU product legislation — CE marking and harmonised standards apply much as within the EU.
