EVS — Estonia's national standards body

EVS is the Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation — the Estonian member of CEN and ISO.

What it is

EVS (the Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation) is Estonia’s national standards body and the Estonian member of the European organisation CEN and the international body ISO. It publishes Estonian standards (EVS) and the Estonian adoptions of European (EN) and international standards, and also houses national accreditation.

Why it matters for compliance

Conformity in practice means applying the right standard, and EVS is where you access the EN standards your product needs for the Estonian market. A standard’s legal weight comes from being harmonised (cited in the Official Journal) for the applicable legislation.

How to use it

  • Find and access the relevant EN/EVS standards for your product.
  • Confirm a standard is harmonised and current for the applicable legislation.
  • Pair it with Estonia’s Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (TTJA) for surveillance.

Good to know

EVS combines standardisation and accreditation in one body, which is common across the smaller Member States.
