What it is
ELOT (the Hellenic Organization for Standardization) is Greece’s national standards body and the Greek member of the European organisation CEN and the international body ISO. It operates within Greece’s national quality infrastructure and publishes Greek standards and the Greek adoptions of European (EN) and international standards.
Why it matters for compliance
Conformity in practice means applying the right standard, and ELOT is where you access the EN standards your product needs for the Greek market. A standard’s legal weight comes from being harmonised (cited in the Official Journal) for the applicable legislation.
How to use it
- Find and access the relevant EN/ELOT standards for your product.
- Confirm a standard is harmonised and current for the applicable legislation.
- Pair it with Greece’s Ministry of Development for product safety and consumer protection.
Good to know
ELOT is also active in conformity assessment and certification, but standards’ legal weight still rests on their harmonised status in the Official Journal.
