What it is
DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) is Germany’s national standards body and the German member of the European organisation CEN and the international body ISO. It develops German standards (DIN), and publishes the German adoptions of European (EN) and international (ISO) standards. German electrotechnical standardisation is handled by its sister body, DKE.
Why it matters for compliance
Demonstrating conformity in practice means applying the right standard, and DIN is where you access and buy the EN standards your product needs for the German market. The legal weight comes from a standard being harmonised (cited in the Official Journal) for your legislation; DIN is the practical gateway to the texts and to participating in their development.
