What it is
FSC (the Forest Stewardship Council) is an international certification scheme for responsibly sourced wood and paper, with chain-of-custody certification that tracks material from forest to product.
Why it matters for compliance
For products containing wood, paper or related materials, FSC certification supports a verifiable sourcing claim and is widely recognised by retailers and consumers. It also complements supply-chain due diligence — notably as the EU’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) pushes brands towards traceable, origin-level evidence (though FSC certification is not itself a substitute for EUDR compliance).
