EU Product Contact Points

Product Contact Points are official national help desks that tell you the product rules — and the right authority — in any Member State.

What it is

EU Product Contact Points (PCPs) are official national help desks, established under EU law, that provide free information on the product rules applicable in their Member State and on the authorities responsible. They are especially useful for non-harmonised products under mutual recognition.

Why it matters for compliance

When you sell across borders, the hardest question is often “who do I ask, and what applies here?” PCPs answer exactly that — pointing you to the national requirements and the competent authority in a given country. For products relying on mutual recognition, the PCP is the official route to confirm what a Member State requires.

How to use it

  • Use the directory to find the PCP for the Member State you’re selling into.
  • Ask about applicable national rules and the competent authority for your product.
  • Lean on PCPs especially for non-harmonised products under mutual recognition.

Good to know

For harmonised products you mostly meet the uniform EU rules once; PCPs are most valuable for the national overlay — language, transposition and non-harmonised requirements.
