The Radio Equipment Directive governs almost any product that transmits or receives radio waves before it can be placed on the EU market.

It applies to manufacturers, importers and distributors, and to anything with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, GPS, NFC or a remote control, covering safety, electromagnetic compatibility and use of the radio spectrum in one set of requirements.

It has applied since 13 June 2016. Since 28 December 2024 the common-charger rule requires USB-C charging on many portable devices, and on laptops from 28 April 2026.

You need harmonised standards or a notified body, technical documentation kept for ten years, an EU declaration of conformity with CE marking, traceability marks and instructions with frequency-band and power information, and USB-C where the common-charger rule applies.

Conphora maps your radio equipment against RED, flags gaps in conformity assessment, documentation, CE marking and the common-charger rule, and alerts you when the rules change.
