The Pyrotechnic Articles Directive governs fireworks and other pyrotechnic articles on the EU market, with a regime stricter than ordinary product law.

It applies to manufacturers, importers and distributors of fireworks, theatrical articles and other pyrotechnics, including airbag and seat-belt gas generators. Explosives for civil use have their own directive.

Every article is classified: fireworks F1 to F4 by hazard and noise, with minimum ages of twelve, sixteen and eighteen; theatrical T1 and T2; other articles P1 and P2, the professional categories only for people with specialist knowledge.

You classify the article, take it through conformity assessment with a notified body, obtain its registration number, keep technical documentation with an EU declaration of conformity, affix CE marking, and label it in the local language with registration number, category and minimum age.
