The WEEE Directive is the EU's framework for collecting, treating and recycling waste electrical and electronic equipment, with recurring duties for the producer.
It applies to manufacturers, importers, rebranders and distance sellers of electrical and electronic equipment. The scope is open, and producer status is assessed per member state.
The recast Directive 2012/19/EU dates from 2012 and is transposed by each member state, so registers, rules and fees differ from country to country.
Before you sell you register nationally, join a producer compliance scheme that finances collection and recycling, mark products with the crossed-out wheelie bin, report the quantities placed on the market, and appoint an authorised representative for cross-border distance sales.
