Transcript
The Units of Measurement Directive sets out which units may legally be used for economic, public-health, safety and administrative purposes across the EU.
It applies to manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers, online sellers and public bodies: to every net content, dimension, capacity, dosage or performance figure that appears in trade, health, safety or administration.
Three rules: the primary indication is a legal metric unit; other units may appear only as supplementary indications that are not more prominent; and the same units run through the pack, the instructions, the spec sheets and the marketing.
You identify every place a measured quantity appears, make the primary indication metric, keep non-metric figures secondary, align instructions and advertising with the pack, read the sector labelling rules alongside, and re-check goods prepared for markets outside the EU.
Conphora maps your products against the Directive, flags indications in non-legal units or supplementary figures that overshadow the metric value, and alerts you when the rules change.
