"answer": "The WEEE Directive makes every producer of electrical and electronic equipment, importers and distance sellers included, finance the collection and treatment of waste from its products and mark them with the crossed-out wheeled bin, with free take-back by distributors. It has applied since 14 February 2014 and was last amended by Directive (EU) 2024/884, transposed by 9 October 2025.",
"description": "WEEE guide: the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive, who counts as a producer, the six equipment categories, registration, financing, the crossed-out bin mark, take-back, key dates and how to comply in Denmark.",
"enforcedBy": "Member States inspect and monitor the register data, shipments and treatment facilities and lay down effective, proportionate and dissuasive penalties in their transposing laws; the directive is listed in Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 on market surveillance for its product requirements. In Denmark the directive is implemented by the elektronikaffaldsbekendtgørelsen, executive order nr. 942 of 20 June 2025 issued under lov om miljøbeskyttelse: Miljøstyrelsen (the Danish Environmental Protection Agency) supervises the producer duties on registration, reporting, financing, take-back, treatment, information and marking, the municipal councils supervise the remaining rules, and Dansk Producentansvar (DPA) keeps the producer register and decides whether a company or product is covered. The toolkit is orders to produce documents, data and supply-chain information, test purchases including under a hidden identity, orders to change or remove content on an online interface, fines for placing equipment on the market without registration, guarantee or marking or without reporting, and imprisonment of up to 2 years where an intentional or grossly negligent infringement damages the environment or yields a financial gain.",
